So Are We All Gonna Agree to Just Not Doing Anything This Week?
How was your Christmas?
Good? That’s amazing! What did you get? Drop a reply and let me know.
Well I hope you had a restful week.
I don’t know about you, but this is the “dead zone” between Christmas and New Years where I can never rationalize whether Publix should be open or not.
But hey, hopefully this newsletter helps you get a little bit ahead this week.
Last week we discussed how you go viral: It’s by creating relatable and entertaining content that appeals to the masses… not a niche.
It’s okay to BE niche, but let’s work towards creating content that can be consumed by EVERYONE.
But what are ways we can make content that appeals to everyone?
Well there’s a few styles of video we can follow:
- Storytelling
- Challenges
- “Man on the Street”
- Talking Head
(Personally, I think a healthy creator is doing a mixture of all four)
Storytelling
This format is the oldest one. Can you tell a compelling story? Can you create a conflict? Can you create a conclusion? Can you bridge the gap between those in a compelling manner?
Challenges
This is your stereotypical YouTube titles: “I did ______” — It’s designed to make the viewers think “No Way.”
Man on the Street
I love Man on the Street interviews. You get a chance to see real people giving real reactions to things. Super easy way to get some fun personality injected into your video.
Talking Head
This is what every guru and their mom does. This style of content is perfect for teaching a skill or sharing relatable facts and beliefs you have.
If I were to pick TWO in order to receive MASS appeal, I would be doing a mixture of “Man on the Street” interviews and Challenge videos. These can be easily ingested by your viewer and have the opportunity to pop off with the right hook.
However you risk losing the personability of the videos. People will come for your content… not as much for you.
If we are looking for content that will help develop an audience, I would pick Talking Head and Storytelling. Both of these rely much more on your own personality and can help people become FANS of you… not just consumers.
Now, these are just STYLES of content. How exactly do you KNOW what to create that can be widely accepted by a large demographic?
You must be thinking of your content through these four buckets and intentionally picking what type you are creating and for what purpose.
From there, you need to learn how to craft a video that has the correct STRUCTURE that can lull people into watching from start to finish.
We’ll get to learn about video structure next week (;
See you then
