The WORST TikTok Advice You Could Take…

Possibly the best advice on TikTok I could give…

I’m About To Step On Some Toes…

There’s a TON of advice out there. And I’m gonna be honest… Most of it is trash.

I’m not trying to make this newsletter fluffier than it needs to be, so I’ll just get right into it.

Here’s the #1 thing that determines if your video is going to perform well…

It’s so simple, but so complex that I’m pretty sure you’re gonna be really mad at me.

Are you ready? Here it is: Is Your Video Good?

…

I know you’re probably thinking: “Dino, are you serious? How am I supposed to know if it’s good!?”

My simple answer is this: You have to find out.

Let me break down the top 3 pieces of advice, why they are terrible, and what you can do instead to make GOOD videos.

“Post 3-5x a Day”

There’s a reason people tell you to do this. It’s the EASIEST way to just tell you “get good” where you can walk away feeling like you were given tactical advice.

I’ll be honest with ya… this is actually terrible advice.

The reason I say this is because way too many people immediately think “If I just post 5 videos a day… then I’ll pop off!” But then they proceed to make 5 videos with zero creativity or effort. They start working towards hitting a number instead of thinking strategically.

My Advice: Post 3 DIFFERENT videos a day. There are 6 KEY types of videos that go viral:

  1. Educational
  2. Vlog/Day in the Life
  3. Motivational
  4. Meme/Trend
  5. News Reporting
  6. Reply to Comments

Pick a different 3 every day and make those. Try new things. See what sticks.

“Use Hashtags”

This stuff really ruffles my zip off pants.

I hate to break it to you, but hashtags do NOT work like you want them to.

What they say: “Use Hashtags” — What you hear: “Use Hashtags and you will get views”

This is not true.

My Advice: Use hashtags — but with a purpose.

I personally like to use my hashtags for two things:

  1. To DIFFERENTIATE my content and lump it all together. Now if someone likes one of my videos, the algorithm knows to show them MORE of my videos because my hashtag is so closely tied to my own content.
  2. To keep track of views. Create a unique hashtag to put on ALL or DIFFERENT videos you have in order to easily calculate how many views you are getting for certain topics.

“Post at Peak Times of Day”

This is the biggest lie I hear.

This literally does NOT matter.

Open up TikTok and watch the first video on your For You Page. Go to the user’s profile. The For You page is showing you videos from months ago (heck sometimes YEARS ago) every single day.

It does NOT matter what time you post a video.

My Advice: Post your videos during THESE three times:

  1. In the morning (so you can post it and forget about it till later)
  2. Whenever you want (so you can post it and be done with it)
  3. Before you go to bed (so that you can have a fun/disappointing surprise when you check in the morning)

You may be seeing the trend here: Post and forget about it.

Why? Because it’s emotionally, mentally, and psychologically taxing to constantly be thinking about your videos. Get on TikTok, Create a video you are proud of, and then get off TikTok.

Trust me, you’ll get better results because you’re in a better headspace (plus it reduces your risk of doomscrolling for hours).

Let’s Answer the Question: “Is Your Video Good?”

Here it is… how to determine if your video is GOOD:

How many views did it get?

That’s it. If a video is good, it will get views. And if your video doesn’t get views? It’s not a good video.

No fancy tricks, no special posting schedule will fix a bad video.

Next week I’ll show you EXACTLY how to analyze bad videos to get good ones.

See you then.
