Well This is Awkward…

Lessons from an Ex-YouTube Employee

Well, This is Awkward…

Yo Reader!

You ever come up with an idea and think “DUDE?! I’m a genius!” Only to find out later someone else has come up with that idea?

Yeah that happened to me yesterday.

I was doing some Market Research (watching YouTube videos) and stumbled on John Youshaei’s video. It’s been recommended to me a lot, and I keep refusing to watch it because I’m salty about his choice of color in the branding.

I’ll challenge him to a boxing match to resolve this.

Anyway, I finally watched the video. And half his points were things I’ve been PREACHING the last few months.

No way.

I look at the time stamp to see who came up with it first:

DARN YOU JOHN!

This guy is good.

Here’s three big takeaways to help you find MASSIVE growth with your Shorts:

Make Formats

In a sea of white dudes sitting behind a desk, be James Cordon instead of a Stephen Colbert.

Cordon gave us ICONIC video series where Colbert just does the same talking head bit every time.

Make multiple formats.

Perfect Your “First Frame”

Jenny Hoyos is the best at this.

View your first FRAME of the short video as your Thumbnail and make it CLEAR.

Simplify Your Speech

Use hemingwayapp.com to figure out what reading level your video’s script is at.

Odds are your corporate business jargon reads at a 12th+ grade.

Humans prefer reading at a 5th grade level… so figure out how to get it there.

Go Watch His Video

Seriously, it’s one of the best explained videos I’ve seen on how to go viral CONSISTENTLY with Shorts. He drops 7 Total Banger points. Let me know which one stood out to you.
