How to Analyze Bad Videos to Get Good Videos
Everyone gets frustrated at some point because they are “shadowbanned.”
Their videos aren’t getting enough views. They’re posting 3x a day and getting no real results.
Why? Because you’re not ANALYZING your videos.
Marketing is simply a bunch of tests. The more you test, the more you prove, and the more data you have, the better decisions you can make.
So if you want to craft HIGH performing videos every time, you need to learn how to test ideas and analyze data.
Before We Begin…
We’re going to focus on YouTube Shorts right now. Why? Because YouTube gives us the most DATA.
This is why I’ve fallen out of love with Instagram Reels and TikTok. They are “black box” platforms… you post a video and cross your fingers.
However, YouTube will tell you exactly how it is. Here’s how:
The 70% Rule
When you post a video on YouTube, these are the only two pieces of analytics that matter when it comes to posting short form video:
Retention and Engagement
Notice how both of these need to be ABOVE 70%.
That means nearly 3/4 of the people who SAW the video, chose to stay past 3 seconds (strong hook) — and then after THAT, 71% of people chose to stay till the end.
Anything below that, and your video won’t get anywhere NEAR 1m views.
So when you are making videos, make sure to ensure that you are capturing peoples attention in the first 3 seconds, and then holding their attention for the rest of the video.
Next time, I’ll share more about how to craft scroll stopping hooks so that you can keep the most amount of people on your videos.
See you then.
